Ayrshire and Royal Troon Golf Club - Islay Island and The Machrie Golf Club

Located on the West Coast of Scotland, this 6-night package is off the beaten path by taking a new route to one of Scotland's most westerly islands, the island of Islay and more specifically to Laggan Bay to play one of the world's most beautiful Links courses.

The journey begins in South Ayrshire, where you stay at the 4 * Marine Hotel, for three nights in the village of Troon. You'll be able to play the Royal Troon and Prestwick courses, located just a short walk from the hotel. Both host the British Open.On the fourth day after your departure, take a ferry or plane to Argyllarea on Islay, where you'll stay at the 4 * Machrie Hotel and Links for three nights. The scenery, wildlife, coastline, one of the most beautiful links courses in the world, coupled with the people and of course its location, make the Machrie the perfect place to explore the islands of Scotland's west coast. This trip can be done as a self-drive tour with a rental car and ferry boarding to Islay or with transfers from Glasgow Airport, and a flight from Glasgow or Prestwick airports to Islay.

ROYAL TROON GOLF CLUB

Located in Troon on the west coast of Scotland overlooking the Isle of Arran, Royal Troon Golf Club is one of the great links courses in Scotland and plays host to The Open Championship. Founded in 1878 by a few enthusiasts Royal Troon Golf Club has outgrown its purely local reputation and is now known as one of the finest championship courses in the world. As host to the Open Championship it is on the wish list of many visiting golfers and recently the club have recognised this and opened up tees times in April and October and on Sunday afternoons. In most recent times the course has hosted the Open in 2004 and 2016, and in 2008 was the venue for the British Seniors in 2009 and is regularily used for The Scottish Amateur Championship. The facilities at Royal Troon have also undergone dramatic changes in the past few years with new visitor facilities and pro shop being added onto the existing clubhouse building. Royal Troon now offers the history and heritage that you'd expect from such a venerable club with the comforts expected by the 21st Century golfing traveller.

PRESTWICK GOLF CLUB

Prestwick Golf Club extends a warm welcome to all golfers from around the world wishing to come and enjoy this testing traditional Links. One of the oldest golf clubs in the world, Prestwick Golf Club inaugurated the first Open Championship in 1860. The winner was Willie Park from Musselburgh with a score of 174 for 36 Holes, two shots clear of Tom Morris the Keeper of Prestwick’s green. Prestwick was home for the first 11 Championships and then held it jointly with The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St.Andrews and with The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. Prestwick's 24th and last Championship was in 1925 when Jim Barnes from the USA won. Only the Old Course at St Andrews has now hosted more Open Championships than Prestwick. Visitors are encouraged to use their temporary membership to its full capacity, and enjoy the full lunch in the historic Dining Room or a snack in the relaxed Cardinal Room. Situated half an hour's drive south west of Glasgow on Ayrshire's famous golfing coast, a stretch of prime golfing terrain as famous as any in the world, Prestwick shares a boundary with Royal Troon, the venue of the Open Championship in 2016. Turnberry is just 40 minutes away and Open final qualifying courses such as Kilmarnock Barassie, Glasgow Gailes, Western Gailes and Irvine Bogside are all within a 20 minute drive.

THE MACHRIE LINKS COURSE

Golf has been played at The Machrie since 1891. Designed by Willie Campbell and more recently modernized by course architect DJ Russell, The Machrie combines the very best of a traditional, historic links course from a previous age, with a modern Links. The need for thought, imagination and creative shot-making has not changed throughout the years and carries as much of a premium over sheer power now, as it did then, in 1891.
